Dear LGBT Chamber Members and Friends:
Your LGBT Chamber of Commerce is diligently working with the City of Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and Chicago Aldermen/persons to enforce the January 15, 2020 Resolution, “City Council Approves Resolution to Acknowledge LGBT Business Enterprises in Chicago.” Additionally, the Chamber has requested for years that the City of Chicago recognize the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s LGBT Business Enterprise Certification. Currently, our City of Chicago does not recognize nor accept an LGBT Diversity Certification within its Department of Procurement Services.
We need your assistance in contacting the City and your Aldermen/persons to ensure that they enforce the passed Resolution. Chicago needs to recognize the National LGBT Business Enterprise Certification, which is recognized in the following cities:
Houston, TX; Miami, FL; Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Orlando, FL; Nashville, TN; Baltimore, MD; Jersey City, NJ; Hoboken, NJ; Louisville, KY; Los Angeles, CA; Long Beach, CA; Seattle, WA; and New York City, NY.
Chicago is the third-largest city in the country and does not accept or recognize a Certification that is endorsed and accepted in the first and second largest cities — as well as cities much smaller. It is time for Chicago to do the right thing — accept the NGLCC LGBT Business Enterprise Certification.
- Call the City at and ask for the Mayor’s Office: 312-744-3300
- Find your Aldermen/persons here.
Ask them to enforce the January 15th, 2020 LGBT Business Enterprise Resolution.
